Roxie Ann (Cunningham) Sawders

Roxie Ann Sawders, 88, of Akron passed away on Friday, March 17, 2023. She was called home, and she was more than ready to go. Born in Braxton County, WV, but resided in Akron her whole adult life. Roxie held many positions throughout her life, such as Sunday School teacher, prayer chain member, and her favorite being homemaker. She loved God, her family, and country. She supported many missionaries and ministries, and of course her country. Roxie knew exactly what Jesus meant when he taught about being a neighbor after being asked “who is my neighbor”; she loved everyone as she loved herself by calling, sending cards, cooking, etc. She will surely be missed by everyone. 

Roxie is preceded in death by her husband of 58 years Bill Sawders, infant daughter Lori Sawders, sisters Rena Gos, Rosetta Cunningham, and son-in-law Charles Peterson. Survived by her daughters Patricia Peterson and Peggy (Daniel) Hunton, 9 grandchildren: Andrew (Freda) Peterson, Matthew (Rachel) Peterson, Leah (Brett) Skibinski, Jonathan Peterson, Anna Peterson, Christina Peterson, Emily (Byron) Fisher, Eric (Audrey) Hunton, Ellen Hunton, and 13 great grandchildren: Liam, Ella, Ivan, Olivia, Gabriel, and Avonlea Skibinski; Jason, Jesse, Charlotte, and Catherine Peterson; William and Alicia Peterson; Byron William Fisher II.

Celebration of life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 820 White Pond Dr. Akron, OH 44320 on Friday March 31, 2023 at 10:30 am., officiated by Pastor Ken Horne, followed by burial at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the Prentice Funeral Home, 1154 Kenmore Blvd. on Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm and at the church on Friday from 10:00 to 10:30 am.
