Abbie Walker, 91, passed away on July 19, 2021, in Akron, Ohio. A devoted wife and mother with a loving, giving heart, a quick wit and tart tongue that could keep you laughing, Abbie cherished her family - and those she considered family - whether related by blood or marriage or long-standing friendship. She loved and shepherded the family through good times and bad and was a tower of strength for all. As a wonderful cook, Abbie nourished her family with delicious meals and shared with friends and those less fortunate. She provided childcare for many family members and was never happier than to be with and entertain the small fry, whether for a few hours or a few days or longer. A favorite form of entertainment for Abbie was a good card game with her husband, Jim; Don and Lois Walker and Ben and Pauline Riley. Abbie’s favorite quiet time was morning coffee on the front porch. Abbie also cared for older family members and provided a comfortable, safe and loving home for her mother and mother-in-law in their elder years. She, in turn, received the same tender love and care by her children and grandchildren in her own twilight years.
Abbie was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Jimmie M. Walker (August 8, 2019), father Rexford T. Estes, mother Nona Boggs, stepfather George Boggs, siblings Sam Estes, Hank Estes, James Estes, Jerry Estes, and her daughter-in-law, Pam Walker. She is survived by sister Patricia Bowles and brother Teddy (Sue) Estes; children Larry (Melissa) Walker, Sandi (David) Spear and Jimmie (Danny) Walker; grandchildren Angie (Tim) Wilkinson, Gina (George) Radisic, Abbie (Aaron) Miller, Tami (Donnie) Lovett, Dave (Megan) Spear and Jason (Priscilla) Spear; 18 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
