Jon Fischer Obituary

Jon Fischer was born on November 6, 1964, in Grand Forks, North Dakota to Jack W & Betty Lee.  The family moved from state to state due to our father’s jobs.  But in Jan. 1971 we finally landed here in Akron, Ohio.

Jonnie attended Weaver School & Workshop.  When he graduated from school he moved into the Workshop.  He loved his job and he had many friends there.  Jonnie enjoyed many of the activities and trips he took while there. One of his favorite things to do was to attend the Wednesday night dances at a local church.  Lots of his peers also went.  When he wasn’t dancing, he was bugging the DJ to give him the microphone so he could announce or sing.  He loved his music.  Jonnie also enjoyed bowling, swimming, fishing, movies, cookouts and going out to eat.  Pretty much anything we did, he wanted to do.  He did not like fireworks, clowns (except Dave Kline) or balloons.

Jon’s sister Linda was a bus driver for Weaver and he loved riding her bus and going home with her on many occasions.  He loved and enjoyed his ‘Weaver World” until Jan. 1996 when his mom passed away.  He and his father moved to Pa. to live with his sister Nancy and brother-in-law Jeff and their family.  While in Pa, Jon attended PennMar, another MRDD facility.  Though it wasn’t his beloved Weaver, he really liked his new friends.  Jon made friends quickly.

Then on Sept. 26, 1996, Jon’s father passed away and he remained in Pa with his sister. Some years later, Jonnie started going back and forth from Pa to Ohio to stay with his sister Linda.  While back in Ohio he got to attend S.C. MRDD facilities because he was grandfathered in.  He really enjoyed that.  While in Ohio, he would get the opportunity to go up to Michigan to stay a week or two with his brother Jack & sister-n-law Bonnie.  He loved his Bonnie!

Whether Jonnie was in Ohio, Pa or Mich he went to church.  He loved singing to Jesus!  Everybody in the churches came to know him and love him.  He was special!  Jonnie’s love for the Lord was real and if you were blessed enough to see those moments, they would touch your heart.

Jonnie was blessed to have so many people in his life that loved him.  But he was the ONE that was truly a blessing to all of us!  He made us laugh and left us many sayings that we all use and memories to last a lifetime.

In August, Jon ended up in a Pa hospital.  After four weeks of not walking, he ended up bedridden. With other health issues in the family, and work, Jeff agreed to send Jonnie to Ohio to live with Linda.  It was a very bittersweet decision for Jeff as he and Nancy cared and loved Jonnie for so many years.  They earned their own crown in heaven!

The last couple of months of Jonnie’s life caused him to be a bit grumpier, but he still possessed that loving spirit.  And on December 25, 2021, God was gracious and merciful and took Jonnie home so that he would not have to suffer.  What a blessing!

Jonnie always looked forward to our family reunions.  He would always say “My family coming?”  What a wonderfully beautiful Reunion that will be when we see him again in heaven.  Waiting on us as a normal man.

Family:  just know that Jonnie totally and whole heartedly loves us ALL!!  He will be missed.  Rest in peace Fischer. ïïï

Jon is preceded in death by his father Jack W., mother Betty Lee, brother Jack Jr. of Trenton, MI, sister Susan McGurran of Grand Forks ND and brother Dale of Menagaga, MN.  Jon is survived by his brother Larry of Milton, Fl, sister Nancy Folbenroth of Loganville, PA, sister Linda Beverly of Copley, OH and sister Judy Birriel of Newberry Township, PA

I want to thank the Elara Caring Hospice for the care they gave Jonnie.  Thank you, Vicki and Tanya!

We also want to thank Prentice Funeral Home for their help in this time of our grief.

And thank you all who may have made an impact on Jonnie’s life.

And most of all a very special thank you to Pastor Snow who always made a point of stopping to shake Jonnie’s hand, even when he was trying to get to the pulpit because it was past time to start the service.  Jonnie absolutely loved him and Mrs. Snow, especially when she brought him that yummy cupcake.  Both Jonnie and Linda are blessed to have such a wonderful Church Family.  Thanks to all of you at Crusade Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at Crusade Baptist Church, 2982 Copley Rd., Akron, OH on Thursday January 6, 2022, officiated by Pastor Justus Snow.  The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
