Heather Laverne Custer, age 49, went home to be with her parents in heaven on October 1, 2022. Born to the late Charles R. Stewart and Jaqueline S. (DeLong) Jessel, Heather was raised in Kenmore and graduated from Coventry High School in 1991. Heather met her husband, John Custer, while working at Acme/Click; later spending the next 32 years by each other’s side. Heather was a kind, selfless person who gave to anyone that asked. Heather worked for a few doctors’ offices and completed several college courses before settling in to serve the children of Barberton School District as a school bus driver. She did this up until her calling was to a full-time mom to her first-born son, Landon. Heather was also involved in raising her three beautiful nieces, Tiffany, Staci Lyn, and Haley. Heather was the fulltime caretaker for her father, Charlie, at his end of life in 2008; and fulltime caretaker for her mother, Jackie, at her end of life in 2022.
Heather is preceded in death by both parents, her sister, Stacy Colleen Quinlan, and her Uncle Donald “Donnie” Wayne DeLong, who held a very special place in her heart. She is survived by husband John Custer, sons Landon and Ayden Custer, brothers Chris Stewart and David Dalton, sister Michelle (Jeff) Weller, nieces Tiffany Schindler, Staci Lyn (Jesse) Bauman, Haley (Mickey) Dalton, Jamie Lyn (Erin) Hood, and Kira Quinlan; nephews Stephen (Brenna) Stewart, Brandon Stewart, Chris (Joanna) Stewart Jr., and Cameron Stewart; and several great nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Prentice Funeral Home (1154 Kenmore Blvd, Akron, OH 44314) from 5:00PM to 7:00PM. Services to immediately follow, at the funeral home at 7:00 PM.
