George Sherwood Obituary

George K. Sherwood, 84 of Fairlawn passed away peacefully on February 13, 2023. He retired as Vice-President and Assistant Treasurer of B. F. Goodrich Corporation.  He sat on numerous boards and committees in the Akron area including Great Trail Council, Boy Scouts of America and Central Region Boy Scouts of America, Goodwill Industries of Akron, Rotary Club Northwest Summit, American Heart Association, Society for the Blind and the International Institute of Akron. 

George held many leadership roles during his long-term support of these organizations.  He was the recipient of several awards, such as Rotary District Community Service Award, Boy Scouts/Rotary Gala Distinguished Community Service Honoree and Silver Beaver as well as Silver Antelope Awards from Boy Scouts of America which are the highest volunteer honors recognizing service to the local council and central region of the United States.

George is preceded in death by his second wife Carol Horning Sherwood and stepson David Horning.  He is survived by his wife of 15 years Beth Ballinger Sherwood, children Brenda (Mike) Wadley and Mark Sherwood, brother Gene (Joan) Sherwood, stepchildren Taylor, Jackson and Harrison Shannon, Laura (Darby) Duryea, Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Satori, Paul (Suzanne) Horning, James (Tanya) Horning and Patty Horning, 5 grandchildren, 20 step-grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Thank you to the Justin T. Rogers Cleveland Clinic Hospice for their compassionate care.  Per his wishes, a memorial and celebration of life will be held at a later date for close friends and family.
