Franklin “Bubby” Soohey, 82, of Akron, Ohio, passed at home with his most precious family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Mary Soohey, 14 brothers and sisters, son Steven, daughter-in-law Barbara Soohey, granddaughter Christina Gibbons, and great-grandchildren Emerson, Naomi and Lucca Gibbons. He is survived by his wife, Wanda (Harbarger), of 62 years and their children Kathi, Joani, Karla, Marty (Noelle), and Lonnie (Chrystal); grandchildren Greg (Meaghan) and Brittany (Kurt); Marty Jr. and Crystal (Joe) and their mother, June; Brian (Ashley) and Brandon (Jessica) and their mother Barb; Miranda (Scott) and Tonya (Omaira); Kimberly, Christian, Franklin; Dalton (Angela); great-grandchildren Taylor, Eliana, Payton, Scott, Coledyn (mother Brandi), Scarlette, Leo, Kayden (mother Amanda), Liam and Bessie; special friends Carol R., Kelly E., Bucky, Carol B., and Dorothy H; and all of his special nieces, nephews, adopted grandchildren and wonderful family inherited through marriage and friendships.
Bubby’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He was born and raised in Smock, Pennsylvania, the youngest of 15, and served in the U.S. Army. He loved working with the kids in the neighborhood on their dirt bikes, bicycles and cars. There was nothing he could not fix, and if he couldn’t find a part, he would machine it himself. That’s what he called his “government job.” He was a man who would give the shirt off his back to anybody, and he never met a stranger. The family is grateful for Jen, Jenna, Joe, Kristy and the hospice team at Affinity Care of Ohio.
Funeral services will be at the Prentice Funeral Home, 1154 Kenmore Blvd. on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at 5:00 pm. Calling hours will be from 2 to 5 pm.
