Ritsuko Smith (92) passed away peacefully on December 31st in Wadsworth, Ohio.

Ritsuko is survived by her sister, Sonoa who resides in Japan and many nieces, nephews and friends both near and far.

She was preceded by her husband, M. Pierce Smith; her parents, Shin and Kiyo Furuya; and her brother, Jutaro Furuya.

Ritsuko married Marion Pierce Smith on August 5, 1955 in Tokyo, Japan at the American Embassy. Returning to the U.S. after the war the couple resided in Akron, Ohio where Ritsuko enjoyed gardening and reading. Ritsuko was a great story teller and enjoyed sharing stories about her family, whom she loved very much. She will be dearly missed.

Graveside services will be held at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman on January 11, 2018 at 1:45 p.m. She will be laid to rest with her husband Pierce.
