Obituary

Michael J. "Mick"  Donahue, Jr passed away on October 10, 2020 at the age of 84. He was born on February 1, 1936 to the late Doris and Michael Donahue, Sr.  He joined the US Navy and was aboard the USS Rush and fought in the Korean War.  After leaving the service, he worked for Ohio Brass but eventually got into the insurance business where he owned Akron Kenmore Insurance so he would have more time coaching the kids of Kenmore.  He was involved in Kenmore Little League as a coach and also was umpire in chief for many years.  After the baseball season, he moved over to Kenmore Pee Wees and was a coach there and was also a co-director of the league with his friend Tom Prentice.  He went on to help Rudy Piekarski with the Kenmore High School Baseball Team and in that time they succeeded in two championship teams.  Mike was also selected in 1997 to enter the Greater Akron Baseball Hall of Fame.  He was a lifetime member of VFW 3383 and a 25-year past member and a past president of Kenmore Kiwanis.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Frank & Vera Elavsky and his stepson, Scott Greene.  He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife Sandra, daughter Maryellen (Fred) Krohne, Kathleen (Alan) Zickefoose, Patricia Donahue (Kevin Skeate), Michael J. Donahue III, Keren (George) Baker, Kevin (Kitty) Donahue and Melissa (James) Flegal.  He leaves his grandchildren, Jeff Krohne, Michelle (Jason) Holcomb, Chris (Casey) Zickefoose, Danielle (Joshua) Reams, Ben (Sonia Garcia) Baker, Jeremy (Luciana) Baker, Michael and Sean Donahue, Megan, Haley and Sarah Morlan, JJ Lott, Blake and Jake Greene, great grandchildren, Wyatt, Cooper and Steven Holcomb, Illayah Reames, Bryan Garcia, Ellieta Baker, Liam and Sophia Baker.  He is also survived by his sister Joanne (Don) VanLehn, brothers Pat (Elaine) Donahue, Tim (Jeanette) Donahue. Brother-in-law and sister-in-law Mark and Lori Elavsky along with family members, nieces and nephews.

We would also like to thank Christina and Audra for the care they gave Mike during his illness.

Calling hours will be at the Prentice Funeral Home, 1154 Kenmore Blvd. on Thursday from 5-7 pm.  Services will be Friday at 11 am with Fr. Sam Ciccolini officiating.  Private burial will be held at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery on Tuesday.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Summa Hospice at Home.
