Randolph Channell
September 29, 1927 – January 6, 2024
Melvin R Channell went home to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on January 6th, 2024. Born in Kingmont, West Virginia, he came to Akron, Ohio, in 1944. He graduated from East High School and retired from Goodyear Aerospace/Loral Corporation as an inventory control manager with 37 and a half years of service. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Randolph and Marietta Channell, first wife, Emeline (Colegrove) Channell, sister Irene Rohr, stepson-in-law Joseph Putt, and stepgrandchild Lori Dixon.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty (McCombs, Plusquellic) Channell, of 46 years. What a blessing she has been to him. He is survived by his son, Richard (Barbara) Channell, daughter Nancy (William) Calvin, step-son Donald (Amanda) Plusquellic, step-daughters Betty Plusquellic, Karen (Steve) Dixon, and Denise Putt; grandchildren Nicholas (Amy) Channell, Jonathan Channell, Matthew and Madison Channell, Joel (Melissa) Calvin, Nicole (Jonathon) Pedraja, step-grandchildren, David Plusquellic, Michelle (Michael) Zupancic, Angela Ward, Bryan (Erin) Dixon, Jonathan (Chelsie) Putt; great-grandchildren, Parker Channell, Lucy, Silas, and Reed Calvin, step-great-grandchildren, Abigail, Alison and Adam Zupancic, Kyla Ward, Lani Mitchell, Anna, Evan, and Addison Plusquellic, Tyler, Paige, and Parker Dixon, and Caroline, Ariana, Meliah, and Joseph Jericho Putt, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
After retiring, he volunteered at the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Hospice Center on Ridgewood Rd and delivered Mobile Meals. He loved his combined family unconditionally. He especially looked forward to their times together at Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other family gatherings. He enjoyed life every day and enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, gardening, and woodworking. He had been a Sunday School Teacher, Elder, Deacon, Treasurer, and Usher for the church in his service to his Savior Jesus Christ. TO GOD BE THE GLORY. He was a member of the Kenmore Historical Society and the Community Church of Portage Lakes.
Friends may call at Community Church of Portage Lakes, 3260 Cormany Rd, Akron, OH 44319 on Thursday from 5 pm to 8 pm and Friday from 12:00 pm to 1 pm. Funeral services will be at Community Church of Portage Lakes on Friday at 1 pm with Pastor Mike Rybka officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. If desired, donations may be made to Community Church of Portage Lakes, Haven of Rest, Salvation Army, or American Red Cross.
