Eugene "Gene" Marketich Gene Marketich, 52, of Akron, passed away September 21, 2016. Gene was a chess champion, a veteran of the Marine Corps and had attended Akron U. He was so happy to have taken a hiking trip to Ireland. Gene was preceded by his brother, Bobby. He is survived by mom, Joyce (Bill) Tomer; dad, Eugene (Judy) Marketich, brothers, Doug Marketich and Charlie Tomer; sister, Kathy Tomer; nieces Audrey and Kendall and nephews, Quinn and Charlie.
