Obituary

Flora Jeane Speck passed away peacefully at her home in the arms of her youngest son, Ronnie on October 29, 2017 at the age of 87. She was under the care of Crossroads Hospice due to complications of Alzheimer's. Flora's father Christopher Morris was an alcoholic who left his wife Peggy to take care of four children on her own while working at Firestone. Flora's oldest brother, Richard, enlisted in the Army to serve in World War II, where he died while training in California when Flora was 14. Two years later her mother died at 42 and Flora was sent to her father in California. Three days later, he sent her back on a bus to Akron, where she lived at the YWCA. There, she met her lifelong friend Shirley Kungle. She started working at Luger's Fishing Co. making fishing lures and at 17, she met her husband, Cecil Speck, a union bricklayer. He built many beautiful homes for his wife and family. After all that she went through when she was young, she then had a happy life and was a beautiful wife, mother and grandmother. Flora was a member of Grace Bible Church. Flora was preceded by her husband; her sisters, Shirley Hutz and June Szalay and her beloved brother-in-law Steve Szalay who generously took care of her. She is survived by her four children, Leona Cook, David, Danny and Ronnie Speck, as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Calling hours will be held at the Prentice-Conley Funeral Home, 1154 Kenmore Blvd. on Thursday, from 4 to 7 p.m.
