In Loving Memory of Donald Curtis Walker Sr. (1937 - 2023)
Donald Curtis Walker Sr. (85) of Akron, born December 2, 1937 in Olive Hill Kentucky, was called Home on January 1, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Don was known for his sense of humor and wit and was a friend to all who knew him.
Don proudly served his country in the Marine Corps from 1955 to 1958. He then married the love of his life on February 28, 1959 which is when their beautiful journey began. Don loved his sons and supported them in every activity they participated in throughout the years. He enjoyed taking them on vacation. They spent their summer weekends at one of their favorite places; their campsite. In retirement, Don and Lois purchased a motorhome to carry on the tradition of camping with their granddaughters at Mohican State Park where they fished, tubed on the river, and enjoyed evening ice cream around the fire. They also enjoyed traveling in their motorhome to various destinations around the country. One of the most memorable vacations they took together was a trip to the Holy Land. Don was an active member and trustee of Park United Methodist Church in Kenmore for many years where he made many lifelong friends within his church community.
One of Don's greatest delights was being a grandpa to his granddaughters. He never missed an opportunity to show his love and dedication to his girls by being their biggest fan in the stands. He was at every spring concert, formal dance, birthday party, first communion, and sporting event. He was an Uber driver before Uber was invented. He drove his girls to and from school and student teaching placements and always made sure they were well-fed in the process ("gotta eat!"). He also looked forward to treating his family to summer vacations in Emerald Isle and Disney World.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Lois, sons Donald Jr. (Tamra) and Danny (Christine), granddaughters Emily Walker, Natalie Hiltbrand (Cory), Bethany Reckner (Cory), Katlyn Walker, Lindsey Niggemeyer (Brendan), and Alyza Walker, and two great granddaughters, Addilyn and Ella Reckner.
